The Center for Experimental Music Education for Children (CeSMI) is a non-profit cultural organization that has been active in Viterbo since 1995.  In 2003 a new branch  was opened in Rome.  The principal objective of CeSMI is the development of musical education for children through didactic experimentation which, while embracing the philosophy of the pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki, remains open to other innovative methodological proposals.  The Center uses a pedagogical model based on imitation, guided by Shinichi Suzuki's approach  to a musical "mother tongue" comprehension, and is directed towards both the precocious development of musical culture as an integral part of the education of the child from his first years of life as well as  the development of instrumental techniques.

This derives from the conviction that music, as an international language, represents a form of expression that goes beyond verbal communication, allowing "dialogue" between children of different nationalities and cultures.  Music can become a means of cultural exchange, stimulating young students through meetings with foreign music students, as has happened in repeated occasions with the  Suzuki Kinder Orchestra of Berlin and through exchanges with other institutions.
