The Courses

The cultural  association "Experimental Music Center for Children" organizes annual music classes according to the principles and goals provided by the Associative Statute. Presently there are two branches of the Center, in Viterbo and in Rome which, while enjoying wide autonomy tied to the different environments in which they operate, are integral parts of a united educational project.

 The educational project proposed by the Center has as its objective the development of the capacity of socialization of the young student, through music learning, as part of the creative and artistic process.  In this process, the role of the family is of fundamental importance; the teacher and the parent work together to sensitize the family environment so that the family is able to participate actively in the formative process of the young child. The presence of the parent is an integral part of the educational journey. The goal is not that of creating future professional musicians, although this path of study does not preclude it, but to develop in the child a strong sensitivity towards music and art in general, contributing in a constructive and harmonious way to his educational development.  Chamber music is one of the principal activities, an important moment in the musical growth of the student and a unique means of socialization through music.  All classes are directed towards the development of the capacities involved in  making music together.  The classes are divided in two categories:

Collective laboratories

Instrumental Courses

The collective laboratories are organized directly by the association and are articulated in one weekly lesson (except orchestra, which rehearses every two weeks) of 45/60 minutes.

The instrumental courses, which are not administrated directly by the association, are articulated in weekly individual lessons (or in small groups) of 30/45/60 minutes.

In order to register for the courses it is necessary to participate in at least one of the following group laboratories:

Music and Movement, starting from 2 years old and up;
Pre-theory and Theory/Solfège, classes starting from the second year of instrumental study

Suzuki studies
Children's choir
Youth choir
Youth Orchestra

The educational course of study initiates preferably for children of 2 to 8 years old and continues through the end of the the middle school.  New instrumental students are not accepted over 10 years of age; this limit does not apply to the Youth Choir and the Youth Orchestra.
The Suzuki course of study is available for children starting at 3 years old and up and continues for approximately 10 years to coincide with the Suzuki diploma.
